Red (gold) Sea

New geological surveys in the Red Sea reveals that there are precious metals in the seabed sediment worth billions. These are gold, copper, zinc, silver and cobalt. Researchers estimate that the amount of gold resting on the bottom is a staggering figure of 50 000 kilos

It is Saudi Arabian along with German researchers, who has taken samples from the seabed and concluded that it differs from other sea beds in the world. The seabed features a large crack, which constantly sends up new precious materials from the underworld.

Some of these are metals like gold, silver, copper, zinc and cobalt, which over the years have been deposited in the sediment of the seabed. Company's and scientist are now participating in a ratrace over who will come up with a technology that can salvage the metals in a satisfying manner .a pretty difficult task . First of all there is a layer of very salty and hot water over the seabed, and the metals is in the form of microparticles. Therefore special techniques has to be developed in order to distinguish micro-particles from the larger particles in the sediment without loosing the particles being carried away by currents etc.. the problems are many.

The red sea is a pretty unique sea with some of the most beautiful and untouched coral reefs. And rich prospering sea life.Around a 100 species are believed to be found exclusively in the Red Sea only. Let us just hope mans greed over this discovery does not change this fact!

It is located between the Arabian Peninsula and Africa. East seaside runs along  the countries of Saudi Arabia and Yemen, and in the west Egypt, Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia and Djibouti. In the north it joins  with the Suez Canal, and goes further into the Mediterranean sea, and in the south it reaches the Gulf of Aden in the Indian Ocean. The sea was formed about 20 million years ago when the displacements in the rock mass separated Africa from the Arabian Peninsula. It is very elongated, the widest distance measures only 355 km but from south to north it is 2250 km. The largest depth reaches 2211 meters.

It  was the Red Sea that God "split" and created a safe passage for Moses and his people when fleeing from the Egyptian soliders, but let the water fall back over the Egyptian soldiers that dared to follow (according to the Bible (Exodus 14:21)
