Rasputin saint or sinner?

The "Holy" Man who ruled Russia
In 1904 a strange looking man arrived by foot at the Russian capital of the time which was the baltic coastal town Saint Petersburg, but he was not a strange name to the towns inhabitants, preceded by his reputation as a holy man with magic powers and healing abilities in direct contact to god or maybe the devil! His presence was confronted with mixed feelings some viewed him as a prophet while others propagated he was the Antichrist. But when the Tsars wife Alexandra contacted Rasputin in pure desperation over her son Alexei´s serious illness, and he managed to "heal" Alexei who was actually more or less lying on his deathbed at the time. "The miracle" resulting in him gaining the trust and love of Alexei and his mother. Alexandra was a strong woman with huge influence over her husband the Tsar. The Tsar remained skeptical about Rasputin and his "magic".But through Rasputins influence over Alexandra he had soon became one of the most powerful men in Russia. He was now almost above the law and current morals, and abused his power in a very peculiar way ...

In the summer of 1917. Russia was a country in turmoil. Exhausted after countless losses and setbacks suffered in WW1.The Bolsheviks were fighting for power with the Tsar administration .And soon revolution was a fact and the Tsar was overthrown. And with him the last remnants of the old Tsar tradition disappeared.
Shortly thereafter in the garden behind the Palace a group of soldiers are shoveling earth away from an old grave and soon uncovered a coffin made of metal. The lid was removed, and in front of the soldiers lay the embalmed corpse of a large Siberian man they pored kerosene over it,and soon the flames embraced the body. The soldiers stood around the bonfire and watched as yet another relic of the old Russia was destroyed, and soon there was only ashes. The metal coffin was taken away to be melted down.Jefimovitj Grigory "Rasputins" body had been destroyed. But the memory remained and the legends and mysticism around his name is still alive in this day in age.
What is really truth or not in the stories about Rasputin is unclear. Already during his lifetime his name was surrounded by myths and superstition which escalated with time, and many of the story's about Rasputin have a hint of being pure folklore´ish tales
The Romanov family
It was somewhat inevitable that both his life and his remarkable career became something of a legend in the sign of black magic. From being a young lazy horse thief to 10 years later becoming one of the most powerful men in Russia.
Through his enormous influence over the Tsar and his family, he had the key to Russia in his hand.
The result of his influence was that the crumbling Tsarist regime was further weakened. Rasputin was one of the factors that contributed to the resolution and clearing the way for the Russian Revolution. Even though he was murdered years before, at the height of his power.

He was born in the small village Prokovskoje within Gubernia Tobolsk in Siberia. Exact date of birth is unknown, but probably around 1870.His true last name was actually Novych. Rasputin was a name that he first earned as an adult. It was originally a nickname, which in fact tells a lot about his character. Rasputin roughly means "the one who devotes himself to debauchery"
The first hint of what would become of the young Grigory came when he was about twelve years old. One day In Prokovskoje a horse had been stolen from a farmers barn, enraged villagers went from house to house to try and figure out who the thief was, when they came to Grigory´s house he laid in bed,his parents told the possé that he was sick and had fever, the villagers explained their business. Grigorijs father argued with the angry crowd telling them to leave. But suddenly Grigory sat up in bed saying - You need not to look further, he said. The thief is in your midst. He is here!
Gregory pointed out one of the men,the man a farmer denied having anything to do with the theft. The farmers asked Grigory how he knew who the thief was?
- "I just know!" answered Grigory
The farmers took his claim to be delirium and ridiculed him!
Then they went out to continue their quest. But the horse was not found.
And the search was called of. But as the people in those days Russia was easily influenced by mysticism and fortune telling, a couple of men who had been involved in the search.discussed the possibility that there might just be some truth in what Gregory had said. They followed the man and when they arrived at the man's house, they saw how he a few minutes later came out with the stolen horse and led it out to a hideout in the woods. The next day the rumor of Grigorijs divine powers spread throughout the region. Overnight the young boy had become a local celebrity

The fame quickly rose to Grigory´s head. And he started throwing countless predictions and fortune tellings around him. Some came true others did not. But he was right the first time, and that was proof enough

During his childhood he lived of the history of the horse.
Gregory was by far one of the the laziest youths in the village. And did not care much for work. He spent Most of his time around the main village street watching and sometimes harassing the girls. His interest in women saw the light at an early age and seemed to become more and more extreme each passing day.
Other then the women, he developed a thirst for alcohol. Grigory was constantly drunk.
His interests, or rather lack of normal interests, was of course highlighted by the locals. The young Gregory and his way of living was the talk of the village. The name Rasputin was heard more often when talking about him. And he himself had nothing against that name. He took it almost as honorable mention.
At rare occasions when he actually did any work,He was assisting a horse carriage delivering goods and passengers to other villages. This broadened his horizons a bit,and at the same time spread the fame of Rasputin. His passion for only "watching" the girls changed as he grew older. And Rasputin was not satisfied to just watch anymore. But he was not an elegant Don Juan. And his romantic skills was that of a barbarian!
If he saw a girl he liked, he simply threw himself over her and tried to tear off her clothes.but he never raped or tried to hit them. The result of it was often that he returned home full of bruises and scrapes after kicks and bites from furious girls. But Rasputin was stubborn. He did not give up. And his efforts paid off with remarkable frequency. And that was the beginning of the legendary female attention that he would later become famous for attracting.
Rasputin with followers
Rasputin's reputation was bad but it would become even worse. He drank and took part in the famous pre-communist fighting wall to wall fighting between villagers. And it´s said that he participated in several robberies, even though Rasputin was never busted.
But even darker rumors than this came into play.in 1890 a traveling merchant was murdered, not far from the village. The merchant had been carrying lots of money after a successful business trip.his dead body was found with all the money gone.
The murder was never solved. But Rasputin suddenly seemed to have plenty of money, From where he got them, no one knew, and many began to put his name in connection with the murder.

Shortly thereafter,Rasputin began showing interest in religion. At one point he went off to join a monastery, but soon came back. Some of the villagers made fun of the incident and said that Rasputin wanted to join the monastery because he was too lazy to work. Others took his sudden interest in religion as proof of that he was guilty of or had assisted in the assassination of the merchant. And now suffered from regrets and was seeking gods forgiveness.

Rasputin's parents were by now thoroughly concerned about their son. They did not take his religious ideas seriously and were disappointed that he did not want to help out with the work on the farm. His father's deepest wish was that Rasputin would follow tradition and be a farmer, and eventually take over the farm. But Rasputin had not shown any interest whatsoever in that direction.
So it was a sudden and unexpected joy for them, when Rasputin came home one day and said he would begin a new life. He would marry, settle down and raise a family. The parents hoping their son had come to his senses and would finally settle down. Gave him their blessing and support for the coming marriage.

The girl in question´s name was Prasjkova. She was a few years older than Rasputin, and came from one of the neighboring villages. Prasjkova was known to be god fearing and nice girl in the neighborhood. Many hoped that she could bring order to the seamingly hopeless Rasputin.
After the marriage he devoted himself to agriculture and worked all day long. The marriage with Prasjkova appeared happy. Nine months after the wedding they had their first child, a son.The family continued to grow, Two daughters, Maria and Varvara, was born. Three years later another son was born. But shortly after the fourth child was born their firstborn son died
Rasputin took his death very hard and began to devote himself to religion again. Some time later, he suffered another severe sorrow. The youngest son showed signs of being mentally retarded.
These setbacks made Rasputin again doubting the values of traditionally quiet family life,And his once daily work on the farm became only sporadic. He turned to alcohol for comfort and was soon back to his old bad drinking habits.
But alcohol only offered temporary comfort and he became more and more depressed. In his search for comfort and the meaning of life he began to visit various religious sects and attending their meetings. this actually helped and Rasputin found the strength to pick up the work on the farm again but things was never like they where before the death and misfortune of his beloved sons
One day, when he had been out on the field plowing he came home earlier then usual and explained that he had experienced a revelation. An angel had appeared and ordered him to embark on a pilgrimage.
Perhaps Rasputin really experienced a revelation or maybe imagined it in his drunken daze? Perhaps it was simply an excuse to escape family life?In a country where at the time there were an abundance of holy men wandering around, and the beliefs on such things where in fashion , There was nothing that could stop him from going on a pilgrimage. Not even the family objected to Rasputins pilgrimage or questioned the truth about the alleged revelation.he packed a few belongings in a bundle, threw it over his shoulder and walked away.

Rasputin became one of the many landless holy men who wandered in the Russian countryside. Like the others, he lived on what monks and peasants gave him. His payments were prayers and blessings as well as stories about the adventures he had experienced during his travels.
The walking man's life was something that appealed to Rasputin. He soon adopted the other wandering men's habits and customs. He dressed in a long peasant blouse, held together by a rope around the waist. His trousers were tucked into the dusty boots. He let his hair and beard grow long. The powerful figure with the wild appearance soon became a familiar figure in many places in Russia.
Thanks to his personal charisma Rasputin had no hard time to get people to believe that he was one of the more significant among the holy walking men. Perhaps he could have gained even more supporters by being more cleaner than he was. Rasputin had only one set of garments during is 2 years of wandering. He never took them off and he never washed.

After 2 years, he returned to his village. Those who knew him from before, found that there was a redeemed Rasputin that had returned. The former fighter and drunk now had an aura of mystery and holiness around him. He never drank alcohol. All the aggressiveness he had previously shown, especially against women, was gone. Instead of drinking and fighting in the streets the villagers now saw him engage in prayers and soon they began to ask him for advice. Many remember the divine gift which he was said to have had when he was a child. They began to say that the once repulsive and godless man now stood in near contact to god.

Even though he had gained the villagers love, respect and trust
Rasputin missed his life on the road. After a short time became restless with the quit village life. And soon returned to the wanderers path, now known as "Father Grigory".

He went through Russia, preaching wherever he could find anybody who would listen. The crowd following his sermons gradually became bigger and bigger. Soon the fame got ahead of him. and big crowds where waiting where ever he arrived. He was now almost viewed as a new Messiah.
A cartoon from the time, demonizing rasputin
Father Grigory Rasputin, the holy man from Siberia, was suddenly the man on everyone's lips. When Rasputin arrived in St.Petersburg he was received with great honors by many high men in the church. Everyone wanted to see and meet the wandering mystic and holy man.
Rasputin took this overwhelming welcoming with calm and ease. He was now so secure in his role as Father Grigori, that there was no hardship at all for him to meet the high churchmen.

The priests were impressed by Rasputin. To them he appeared to be simple and straightforward but a brilliant preacher.
At this time in St. Petersburg, occultism and all forms of séances was at a height of fashion in high society. Rasputin, who was rumored to be blessed with the most incredible skills and abilities, was soon introduced in the higher circles of St Petersburg, he met a lady from high society. She had long been ill, suffering from headaches that were probably of nervous origin. All of St.Petersburg´s doctors had tried to cure her. But no one had succeeded. The Wanderer from Siberia appeared as an angel to her. And where the doctors had failed, Rasputin succeeded.

Rasputin knew from experience that he had a strong ability to influence people with his personality, He soon fully mastered the art of hypnosis.
Was it perhaps with the help of hypnosis that he managed to cure the woman's headache? During the treatments the noble lady became so fond of the tall enigmatic Rasputin that she decided to leave her husband and follow Rasputin as a disciple.
She not only admired Rasputin, despite his dirty and savage appearance. She found herself attracted to him. And when her girlfriends told her about the great wonders that Rasputin was said to have done during his long journeys. in her eyes he became equal to Christ.

Rasputin himself quickly understood what good use he could make of this phenomenon. In time many ladies of high society suddenly was suffering from more or less invented disorders. They went to Rasputin and he healed them in different ways. Sometimes it was just a sitting, sometimes he seduced them.
The women of Petersburg's high society soon considered it to be a blessing to be seduced by the holy man. It was not long before there was a stream of distinguished women in and out of Rasputin's bedroom.
Of course he adapted quickly to this new life, which to some extent simply meant a return to his former lifestyle. In Rasputins preachings there was indeed also a lot of sexual liberalism and defending of the sexual elements in his "treatments" "Rasputin himself was holy, whoever joined him in body and soul were thus part of his holiness" To remove any doubts of the women he preached that salvation is impossible if you have not received absolution, and remission can not be found unless you have sinned. Rasputin provided himself in all three stages: sin, forgiveness and salvation

Everything that Rasputin as a poor Siberian villager could only dream of was now available to him. He was received with open arms by society and was invited to their constant food and wine abundant feasts.
On November 1, 1905 the 35-year-old Rasputin was introduced to the imperial couple, Tsar Nicholas II and Alexandra for the first time. It was the Grand Duchess Militsa who had arranged the meeting.Rasputin did not care about the customs at the palace. He stood in front of the imperial couple dressed in his simple walking robe. The Tsars closest people noticed with horror how unclean the man who stood before the throne was. The boots were not even brushed and left muddy footprints on the shiny floors.

The graceful courts etiquette was not anything to Rasputin. He was humble, But instead of saying, "Your Majesty" he called the Tsar "Little Father" and the Empress "Little Mother" This man of God of the Russian people deeply impacted them. And even though the Tsars closest people viewed Rasputins nicknames as disrespectful. The Tsar couple saw it as the opposite. They actually liked the idea to be viewed as parents for their people. Here stood a man of the people and made them feel like parents of the Russian people.
From that day Rasputin was a welcome guest in Tsarskoye Selo, the Tsar's palace

Rasputin finally took off his old wanderers robe. And high society ladies competed to provide him with everything he could possibly need in therms of clothes. But the clothes were also the only thing that changed. Rasputin remained, the rough, Siberian villager. For example he used an extremely bad language at parties and gatherings of various members of the nobility. He enjoyed the easily shocked peoples reactions. His table manners caused many to sit beaten loosing their appetite, feeling sick to their stomach, and Rasputin did nothing to improve his manners, just calmly went on with his slurping, and putting the knife in his mouth, and stirring the soup bowl with his dirty hands.

About a year after his first visit to the Imperial Palace an event occurred which suddenly increased his influence over the Tsar family, especially the Empress Alexandra and her son Alexei who suffered from hemophilia.
One day Alexei fell from a chair and fell so bad that internal bleeding occurred. None of the summoned doctors could stop the blood flow. Alexei was dying.
As a last desperate measure the Empress decided to send for Rasputin.
Rasputin came. He whispered some prayers and gently put his hands on the sick child.
A moment later the bleeding stopped! Alexei was saved!
The Empress Alexandra was euphoric. Rasputin had saved her son. He is a saint! surely in contact with god himself! Like through a miracle he managed to do what neither the doctors or her own prayers had been able to accomplish.
Could it possibly be Rasputin´s hypnotic ability that had had a calming effect on Alexei? Was the bleeding about to stop by itself? we will never find out. But the Tsar family viewed the incident as proof of that Rasputin was a true holy man blessed with great powers.

After this event, Rasputin´s power increased in the imperial palace. He himself became like a member of the Tsar family. and was allowed to roam freely throughout the palace even to the family's private rooms. For Alexandra, he became increasingly important. She gave him precious gifts, and spent much time in his company.Tsar Nicholas was less amused, but noted that Alexandra and Alexie was much calmer and felt secure when Rasputin was present in the palace.

Rasputin soon realized that he had found the way to power. And he was determined to exploit it. In Alexandra and Nicholas presence Rasputin acted as a very holy and a civalized man.
But outside the palace he had another darker side the imperial couple saw or knew very little about, but the rest of the St. Petersburg saw more of each day that passed.Rasputin lived in an apartment right downtown. It was light years from the luxury at the palace, most of the furniture was old and ugly. But the apartment was also had all of the treasures the Empress and other admirers had given him. On his desk were piles of letters from the Empress, and other women.

Rasputin's daily life in Petersburg began to resemble one long, uninterrupted orgy. He now drank even heavier then he did in his youth. He seduced women several each day to just abandon them for new ones. The rumor started going that Rasputin was running the devils errands and just pretended to be a holy man.
Often when he was drinking with friends.he would read the love letters from his female admirers.with the purpose to make them jealous of his great success

For six years, Rasputin could ravage undisturbed in Petersburg. But in 1911, he had lost all influence over the society that he once had In Petersburg. Rasputin had gone too far.The church had also lost faith in Rasputin. It was only the imperial family, which still protected and had not lost faith in him.
The first person who seriously tried to do something about Rasputin was the old bishop Theopan. He informed the Empress that something was not quite right with the holy man Rasputin. Alexandra sent for Rasputin who was angry and offended and the argument was won by Rasputin causing Bishop Theopan to move out of town.
- "I have closed the mouth of him" Rasputin cheerfully told anyone who would listen.
Several others attempted similar actions against Rasputin. All experiments ended in the same manner. Rasputin remained where he was, and his opponents was chased away.
The one who finally succeeded was the Prime Minister, Pyotr Stolypin. He was a man of great influence in the Russian government. He had over the years had some ability to influence the Tsar. Stolypin engaged an investigation of Rasputin´s years in St.Petersburg. The report was a startling read. He sent it immediately to the Tsar. But Tsar Nicholas let it pass without action. Stolypin now feared for the safety of Russia it self and viewed it as his duty to save Russia from the "antichrist" Rasputin,on his own authority he ordered that Rasputin was to be sent away from St.Petersburg.

Rasputin obeyed the order and set off on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. During his absence he wrote long and mysterious letters to the Empress. One of them was in response to a telegram the Empress had sent. Alexei had once again suffered internal bleeding and faced the risk of dying. The telegram begged for Rasputin´s help. He responded: "Fear not, the boy will not die this time"
It turned out he was right. Alexei survived. This made the imperial couple even more convinced about Rasputin´s powers.
A short time later he was ordered back to Russia, and soon made yet another prediction that would become true. In a procession through Kiev with Stolypin participating. Rasputin stood among the spectators. When Stolypin´s wagon rolled past Rasputin raised his hand, pointed at the car and shouted:
"See, death follows him. Death goes behind him!"
The following evening Stolypin was at the opera in Kiev with other imperial socials. Suddenly a man pushed his way through the people heading for Stolypin.
The man fired two shots from his revolver. Stolypin fell dead to the floor.
The murderer was arrested trailed and hanged shortly afterwards. But Rasputin´s words was remembered. Once again he had come up with a prophecy that proved to be true.

Rasputin was back in the palace. And again started with his sinful way of living. The report on Rasputin that Stolypin had done was forgotten. And Rasputin gained an even stronger influence on the Tsar who now always asked for his advice on difficult political decisions.
Soon enough, the Tsar had more difficult problems than the domestic politics to consider. The First World War broke out.
The Russian army was disastrously ill-equipped.Despite this fact it actually at first seemed that the war was going well. The Germans were driven back. The Tsar engaged entirely in war issues. Meanwhile the role of domestic policy makers are increasingly falling into the hands of the Empress which was now completely under the influence of Rasputin. Rational thinking was not the basis for decisions for him. Rasputin relied on the mystical powers and was a sucker for flatter.
Soon Rasputin managed to fill a variety of government positions with unfit and strange men. Russia's economy, which was already under the pressure of war spending, was approaching a catastrophe.
The crowd of opponents against Rasputin grew. One of them was the army commander in chief. In an attempt to gain his friendship Rasputin telegraphed to the commander and offered to come and bless an icon that was in the military headquarters.
the asnwer was not what he had expected:
"Yes, come by all means,I will have you hanged"
The answer made Rasputin furious. He now had a powerful enemy and but he fought him cleverly through Alexandra. Rasputin accused the commander for having plans to seize power in Russia and try to dismiss the Tsar.
Alexandra said Rasputin:
- "The commander will never be able to bring his army to victory. God does not bless the man who has tried to take you,the man of God away from me"
The love for Rasputin and his power to heal her son got the Empress to react. She complained to her husband, and criticized the commander. Which resulted in that the commander was fired. The Tsar himself would become the new commander.

Soon the fortunes of war changed. The Russian army suffered one defeat after another.Influenced by Rasputins words about the Tsar being the father of all russians the he believed he had the solution to the problem. He would go to the front, and when the troops see their "father" in the battle line, they would attack the enemy with renewed awakened courage and rage to protect their father,
Despite a few ministers who had not yet been kicked out. Rasputin warned the Tsar asking him not to do it.But there were no arguments that could stop him from carrying out his insane idea and he went to the front.

The newspapers had long criticized Rasputin. Now they wrote openly that Rasputin had not only taken over the government, but also the Tsar´s place in the imperial bedchamber. Rasputin himself had responded to such accusations before and openly said that he used to kiss the Empress Alexandra in her daughters' presence. a statement to prove his status within the palace. But this statement only made the accusers more convinced that they where the ones telling the truth.

And indeed some of the letters from the Empress that was found after Rasputin's death can make you wonder if they where right:
"My beloved, unforgettable teacher, redeemer and mentor,it is so hard living without you! I find peace only when you, my teacher, are sitting next to me. I kiss your hands and lean my head against your sacred shoulder. Oh how calm that make me feel. My only wish is to sleep forever against your shoulder and in your arms. Where are you? Come soon - I pray for your holy blessing, and I kiss your blessed hands. I love you forever"

While the Tsar was at the front and the Empress was letting Rasputin decide in things.Things became worse every day and the people starved. After having unsuccessfully attempted to reason with the Empress some relatives of the Imperial Family took matters into their own hands. It was decided to murder Rasputin to save Russia. The leader of the conspiracy was Prince Felix Jusupov, the son of the richest Russian noble family. Jusupov went to Rasputin and explained that he was sick and wanted treatment. His real intention was to try to find out something about Rasputin as a healer. After the visit Jusupov said:"The man of God had me lie on a couch. As he stared intensely at me, then he let his hand slide over my chest, my neck and my head, whereupon he fell to his knees, put both hands on my forehead and mumbled some sort of prayer. His face was so close to me that I could only see his eyes. He had a huge hypnotic ability. It seemed as if some force poured a hot current through my whole being. And all I could see where Rasputins shining eyes, two phosphorescent light rays melted together into a big shiny ring"

Jusupov sent Rasputin an invitation to a party. Rasputin looked forward to the party with joy, especially as he had been promised to meet with the Prince's young and very beautiful wife.this despite the fact that Rasputin had been told that some conspirators planned to assassinate him. On December 31, 1915, he posted a letter to the Tsar. The letter contained two predictions. The first was that he himself would not live long enough to see the sun rise on the morning of January 2.
The second prediction concerned the Tsar:"If I am killed by common assassins, you have nothing to fear" said Rasputin. "But if it's your family that cause my death, none of your children or relatives will live more than two years"

Grigory Rasputin had made his final predictions. And It would later prove to be true. The evening after the letter was posted, 1 January 1916, he joined the party of Prince Jusupov. Many had warned him to go, but Rasputin was not about to listen. He wanted to meet the Prince's beautiful wife.

At the party in the home of Prince Jusupov the murder had been prepared and planned in detail. Rasputin was to be served honey cakes which he was known to eat in abundance when available. All the cakes were poisoned with lethal doses of arsenic. Besides sweets, there was wine of Rasputins favorite label, the wine was also poisoned, Rasputin appeared. He immediately asked after the prince's wife, Irina. Jusupov replied that she would soon come and offered wine and cakes. Rasputin drank several glasses of wine and ate three cakes without seeming the least affected by the poison. After a few more glasses of wine the conspirators noticed that Rasputin was a little bit sleepy. But it could just as easily been due to the wine, as the poison. When another hour had passed Rasputin began to show impatience over Irina never showing up. Jusupov went to get her, but returned with a gun instead of his wife. At a short distance, he fired two shots at Rasputin.

The conspirators rushed to different parts of the prince's palace to escape any witnesses who might had heard the shots but no one did. when coast seemed clear they returned and found Rasputin lying stretched out on the floor, seemingly lifeless. But when they bent down to look at him, the poisoned and wounded Rasputin suddenly opened his eyes. With a roar he came to his feet and threw himself at the shocked Jusupov. He succeeded however to escape Rasputins rage. And Rasputin did chase after. instead he managed to flea out of the palace. With Several of the conspirators firing shots at the fugitive. Struck by three more shots Rasputin finally halted and fell to the ground in the courtyard.
According to author Edward Radzinskij, who has written the most recently published book about Rasputin, he was shot by the Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich,

The conspirators picked up Rasputin's body and drove the car to the Neva River, that was frozen at the time.they lowered the body into a hole in the ice,and Rasputin was swallowed by the dark waters.
It is said that a while after the conspirators had thrown him in the hole thye suddenly saw a hand reach out of it and with horror they saw how Rasputin made a last desperate attempt to lift himself out of the water, before he was sucked back by the strong current of the river.

The drama in the story of Rasputin's death is said to be exaggerated. Modern explanations on the superhuman strength he displayed on the evening of the murder are many: The wine or cakes were not poisoned to such an extent that the dose was lethal. The persons in the conspiracy that would ensure that the food was properly poisoning did not want to have Rasputin's death on his conscience.Jusupov is not believed to have been the cold blooded murderer he needed to be, to do the job properly. It is said he trembled greatly when he fired two shots at Rasputin and probably aimed so badly that Rasputin was not mortally wounded.
Rasputins dead body washed up on shore and was found a few days later. Empress Alexandra had the body transported to the Imperial Palace, where Rasputin was buried in the garden during a formal ceremony.

Barely a year later Tsar Nicholas and his family was arrested. The Russian revolution was a fact and the royal family was taken to captivity in Siberia, where they where later executed probably in the summer of 1917.The second part of Rasputins last prediction had come true"Two years after his death no one in the Tsar's family would be alive" or maybe it did not come true? cause Grand Duchess Anastasia's body was never recovered, and during most of the 1900s several women turned up claiming to be Anastasia Romanov. But thats a whole mystery of it´s own where is Anastasia's body??
