Codex gigas (the devils bible?)

Codex gigas  (the devil's bible?)

The name Codex gigas alone sends  shivers down ones spine. It is also known as devil's Bible.
Codex gigas literally means "The Giant Book" and it is truly massive! The book measures 92 by 50 cm, is 22 cm thick and weighs 74.8 kg ... The nickname "devil's bible" comes partly from a illustration covering a full page in the book depicting the "devil", a green faced creature with horns and sharp claws! with staring mad eyes which is hard to take your eyes off.

The book contains several Latin texts, magic spells and prayers for exorcism. It has a dark tale,a legend of how the book was written .
The book cover itself is in white leather with ornamented metal parts and contains the entire Vulgate Codex and that story can be traced back to the Middle Ages

According to legend, it was written in one single night by a Benedictine monk who made such serious breach of his vouches that he was condemned to "Immurement" a really gruesome death indeed. In his desperation to get forgiveness for his sins, the monk announced he would write down the most amazing Bible ever seen, and do this before the sunrise next day.He also promised that the publication would not only contain the entire existing Bible, but also all the world's knowledge which the convent would be able to claim as their own, a "masterpiece" that would give them fame and respect throughout the known world .When the clock was approaching midnight he realized he was out of time to finish the book,he then shouted out a desperate prayer in the dark of night,But this prayer he directed not towards God but towards the fallen angel Lucifer! And the devil must have answered him, and helped to complete the book in exchange for the monk's soul. thats just about it when it comes to the legend of how the book was written

In reality the book was most likely written by one man in the early 1200s. This alone is an remarkable achievement, keep in mind that the art of printing did not exist and everything written was done entirely by hand! In rough calculations the fastest time to complete such a book would demand 5 years of constant writing day and night!

Experts says that the distinct calligraphy and specific ink is in favor for the "Legend" in that it was written by one single writer!

Early on in the book is the word "inclusio" translates to: entrapped or isolated
The name of the monk who is said to have written the Codex gigas is said to be: Herman "the loner" who is said to have been condemned to, or voluntarily chosen,a life of loneliness. The lonely monk would then have written the book as a form of penance, and it is believed that it took him less than 20 years. This probably means Herman would have spent most of his waken hours writing in a time frame of two to three decades!

The Codex place of "birth" is said to be monastery Podlažice, in Czech Republic, and from there it was then passed around to different monasteries .The book seems to have been cursed cause several of the monks in the monasteries, which had handled the book suffered from leprosy, plague, and it was blamed for "causing" monasteries in possession of it to suffer misfortune. In the year 1649 the Swedish army invaded and took the book as a "war trophy" from the monastery Broumov.Today the huge book is on display at the Royal Library in Stockholm. you can view the entire Codex on their website  here..

Is Codex gigas the devils Bible? unlike other similar "holy transcripts" where the writers is said to have been inspired by the Holy Spirit. This would be the work of a condemned man whose hands was guided by the fallen angel Lucifer? Nobody knows
