"Spring Heeled Jack" - "Jumping Jack"

"Spring Heeled Jack" - Jumping Jack

The shady-town of 1800s London seemed to hide all sorts of mysteries and horrors. There were secret drug stores, smugglers trafficking the Thames  and prostitutes were murdered by the mysterious "Jack the Ripper." But nothing was more remarkable than the character who became known as "Spring-Heeled Jack" or "jumping Jack". Who got his name from the alleged ability to make inhumanly high jumps over walls and rooftops. This caused people to speculate that he had installed steel springs under his feet enabling him to make those insanely high jumps.

Vikings and horned helmets

The hilarious stereotypical image of Vikings
Being of Swedish descent (and a bit of a history nerd) I have often laughed at how the vikings are always depicted with horned helmets. And as if that where not enough they are often half naked with only some piece of leather covering their private parts!Even the average Scandinavian think this is the correct description of a viking.

Rasputin saint or sinner?

The "Holy" Man who ruled Russia
In 1904 a strange looking man arrived by foot at the Russian capital of the time which was the baltic coastal town Saint Petersburg, but he was not a strange name to the towns inhabitants, preceded by his reputation as a holy man with magic powers and healing abilities in direct contact to god or maybe the devil! His presence was confronted with mixed feelings some viewed him as a prophet while others propagated he was the Antichrist. But when the Tsars wife Alexandra contacted Rasputin in pure desperation over her son Alexei´s serious illness, and he managed to "heal" Alexei who was actually more or less lying on his deathbed at the time. "The miracle" resulting in him gaining the trust and love of Alexei and his mother. Alexandra was a strong woman with huge influence over her husband the Tsar. The Tsar remained skeptical about Rasputin and his "magic".But through Rasputins influence over Alexandra he had soon became one of the most powerful men in Russia. He was now almost above the law and current morals, and abused his power in a very peculiar way ...

El Dorado

The solid gold raft found in 1968
El Dorado
the stories of El Dorado which is spanish for "The gilded" are many, but what the original name in the Chibcha Indian Language really refers to is not really known it could be a king. a city, a kingdom, or perhaps even an empire? or all of it. what is known is that this king or kingdom where very rich in gold and treasures. it is said it was located deep in the Amazon jungle in South America.

A story that was told to the Spanish explorer Sebastian de Benalcázar by an Indian.
says this was in fact a king of a rich kingdom. and in a yearly ritual the king was taken out on a "sacred" lake covered in gold dust and then took a leap from a ceremonial raft into the water while priests sprinkled the water with gold powder. other valuable items of gold and emerald where also put in the lake as offerings made to an indian goddess
